Oxygen cylinders
As a garden inspired by living with breathlessness, our material choices have been guided accordingly.
In a pleasing full-circle gesture, repurposed oxygen cylinders — vital sources of breath support — become the structural elements of the floating “Breathing Space” platform. Once functional medical apparatus, they take on a new supporting role: transformed into something elegant and life-affirming, raising the platform into the air.
Stripped of their coating, the cylinders are reworked by metal fabricator Rex Holloway into 400mm sections, forming an 8m-long honeycomb structure. At its centre, a larger steel half-pipe creates a water outlet, pouring into an informal pool below.
