Artist Tatsuya Tanaka doesn’t see the world like everyone else. Where we see a paper cup, he sees a drum; where we see a bunch of parsley, he sees a forest.

He looks at any object, no matter how humdrum, as potential material for one of his tiny creations: witty, miniaturised versions of daily life. Tanaka’s scenes are funny and fascinating. But just as impressive is his productivity: he has created an artwork every day since 20 April 2011.

Buitenverblijf Nest

Architecture studios i29 and Namo Architecture referenced birdhouses and nests when creating this holiday home in Arnhem, which is intended to blend in with its woodland setting.

Named Buitenverblijf Nest, the dwelling is located at Buitenplaats Koningsweg, a wooded site at the edge of the Hoge Veluwe National Park in the Netherlands, which was formerly occupied by barracks.

Bloom

Bloom is a destination for gardeners, plant admirers, nature lovers and outdoor adventurers.

The idea for Bloom came about in the way so many good ideas do. At the time, Zena Alkayat had just moved into a house with a garden and she was looking for help in turning her barren plot into a beautiful one – she was utterly out of her depth. Bloom blossomed at that very moment. It was the magazine she needed and wanted to read, and felt in her gut that others needed too.

Foraging for Flowers

Kitten Grayson is a florist who learned her trade on projects such as the perennial meadow at Hauser & Wirth in Bruton, and, under the guise of her namesake studio, has since applied her green fingers to homegrown flower arrangements for Heckfield Place.

Wildflowers

Ploterre was founded by Rebecca J Kaye in Edinburgh at the end of 2019. It explores the natural world using data and communicates this journey through design.

The new print ‘Wildflowers’ uses detailed data describing the plant coverage across the UK split into 10km squares. So hundreds of thousands of data points. The result is this corn meadow, which focuses specifically on wildflowers such as poppies, cornflowers and corn marigolds. Each blade of grass has been drawn from data, indicating these 10km squares of land. The distribution of flowers is shown by the flowers themselves ordered by grid reference.
