Where The Wildflowers Grow

In this new artwork, Ploterre has visualised where the wildflowers grow across the length and breadth of the UK, with the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland being the data source.

Each blade of grass represents one 10km square of land, which have been identified by having at least one sighting of common grass, Yorkshire fog or nettles. The three most common species in the UK.

The grass has been arranged by grid reference, where the Shetland isles are top right and Scilly isles bottom left. The floral illustrations represent the presence of that flower within that 10km square. The taller the flower, the more abundant they grow.

The flowers included in this print are the ox-eye daisy, poppy, cornflower and corn marigold.

We have been featured in the February 2025 edition of Country Life Magazine.

The brief for the garden of The Cart House was clear: the client wanted a pool, a kitchen garden and plenty of space for the dogs; and they wanted to make the most of the view. The garden also needed to be functional and contemporary, but drift away into the countryside—a light touch, not jarring with the rural outlook.
