How My Garden Grows

The Modern House has released the first instalment of their new gardening series, How My Garden Grows, hosted by lifelong gardener and journalist Francine Raymond.

Each garden visit will be accompanied by a feature, a podcast and a short film. In this first episode they meet creative consultant Phil Gomm, who lives in a terraced house by the sea with his husband Paul Carey. Together, they have created a plushly planted urban sanctuary in wind-swept Whitstable.

RIBA Stirling Prize 2025

The RIBA Stirling Prize 2025 shortlist is here, revealing a list of six buildings, all now contenders for this year's top architecture gong – the best UK building for 2025.

Established in 1996, the award is widely acknowledged for its prestigious status, highlighting the country's finest architecture. The highly respected accolade is traditionally announced in October and has in the past included a major London infrastructure scheme, the Elizabeth Line (2024), and a residential and nursing facility, the John Morden Centre (2023). This year's winner will be revealed in a ceremony at the Roundhouse in London on 16 October 2025.

Victorian Villa

One from the Archive. We were instructed to bring the countryside into the town, this walled garden explores a softer, wilder aesthetic.

Acer campestre, the humble field maple, formed a woodland grove beneath which wildflowers flourished. These multi stem varieties are regularly pollarded to maintain their height and sculptural quality. Nearer the house, a formal lawn and lime tree avenue complete the this calm textural garden.
